TRAINING & SAFETY ________________________________________________________________________
The Training Division is housed at Fire Station #52, located at the corner of Firehouse Road and East Bridge Street. Staffing is provided by a Battalion Chief of Training and Safety and the crew of Engine 52.
Annually, the Fire District conducts a Reserve/Volunteer Firefighter Academy for probationary members. Generally, the Fire Academy runs for four months and is followed by Hazardous Materials Operations and Medical First Responder Training. Fire Academy training classes are held for four hours on Tuesday evenings and all day on Saturdays. Academy students are instructed by fire officers and firefighter who offer experience in the subject matter being taught.
Firefighter Shift Training In an effort to continually
improve the level of service the Fire District offers the public, the Training
Division provides shift training for District firefighters. On a monthly basis,
firefighters from the Fire District’s five fire stations come together to gain
experience and knowledge in a variety of fire service topics. Firefighters
receive training in advanced fire suppression operations, technical rescue,
hazard materials/weapons of mass destruction and vehicle extrication.
Ice Rescue Medical Helicopter Safety
When not committed to specific shift trainings, the Fire District’s five fire stations conduct daily trainings so firefighters can develop their fire and rescue skills and better familiarize themselves with buildings and development in the community.
Firefighter Safety The Fire District is committed to the safety, health and well being of the firefighters and staff. The greatest asset of the Fire District is its people. Programs are continuously being developed and updated to encourage the safest situations in an inherently dangerous profession. With stress and overexertion injuries being one of the leading causes of firefighter deaths annually, firefighters are encouraged to maintain as healthy of a lifestyle, as possible. A Firefighter Peer Fitness Instructor is available to field questions from firefighters and assist with physical conditioning programs. Inquiries If you should have any questions regarding the Fire District’s Training Division, please contact Battalion Chief Christopher Woolley .
