CPR ________________________________________________________________________ A great challenge that faces the American
people is the fact that not many are trained in CPR. According to the
American Heart Association, almost 80 percent of cardiac arrests occur at home
and are witnessed by a family member. Less than 5 percent of the sudden
cardiac arrest victims survive because that vast majority of those who witness
the arrest are people who do not know how to perform CPR. Each year,
cardiovascular disease and sudden cardiac arrest continue to claim the lives of
335,000 Americans before they reach the hospital. CPR can make the
difference between life and death of a loved one. It can DOUBLE a
cardiac arrest victim's The Greater Brighton Fire District offers public CPR classes for those who are interested. The Fire District has three certified CPR instructors and classes are done at your local fire station. The instructors will teach you how to perform CPR by doing compressions (pushing on the chest) and breathing for the victim (ventilations). They also cover signs of a possible heart attack, how to help a choking victim, the 911 system and signs of a stroke. Help us protect your community by learning CPR. If you are interested in learning CPR, please contact us at 303-659-4101 extension 240. You can also contact Lieutenant Mike Prill via email.
